Update (01/02/2020): I have purchased a 16″ MacBook Pro. I’m appealed by 16″ screen size and continue to use my established workflows.
I have been using my MacBook Pro since 2013. It is not my main computer nowadays. I mainly use 5K iMac 2017, but I use this laptop when I’m on the go. The reason I haven’t upgraded to a new MacBook Pro because there is no MacBook I want to buy. I have waited so long for Apple to release a laptop that fits my needs but I don’t want to wait any longer.
Reasons I don’t like current MacBooks are:
– Touchpad. I use function keys a lot for shortcuts and I don’t want a touchpad instead of function keys. I know you can use soft function keys but it doesn’t have physical feedback.
– Failing keyboards. Even the 3rd generation of Apple’s Butterfly Keyboards which is used in current MacBooks have very high failure ratio. And replacing this keyboard is very expensive, I think around $600.
– There are other design errors. Please just watch some of Luise Rosman’s videos about design errors in Apple’s current generation MacBooks.
Other than these they are great laptops.
I’m thinking of buyging a Dell XPS 7590 to replace my MacBook Pro 2013. Why?
– i9-9980HK Processor
– Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650
– 2TB PCIe SSD. It is user upgradeable.
– 32GB Ram. It is user upgradable.
– 4K OLED Touch Screen. Touch Screen version is not OLED, but IPS. I don’t think I will every use touch but it has nearly an hour longer battery life than OLED version. If battery life were the same I would prefer OLED, check here for why.
– I will upgrade Windows to Windows 10 Pro mostly because I want to use Bitlocker. I will not pay Dell for this, because I already have Windows 10 Pro license.
This configuration will cost me around $3400. A MacBook Pro with similar configuration will cost $4750. Difference in price is $1350. I will need to spent some of this money on software licenses because licenses of most applications are not transferable between Mac and Windows.
This is just my plan and plans may change. Dell XPS 15 7590 is just released 2 days ago and no one had a change to test it yet. It may have design issues too.
I’ve been seeing lots of blog posts lately about switching from mac to windows. People not only complaining about the hardware limitations but also the ugly marketing tactics of apple being the niche brand of the computer industry. Looks like they are relying mostly on the brands’ reputation and ignoring the actual needs of consumer hence its basically a rip off for that money. I mean how come you can’t fix that faulty keyboard since years? here is one example i saw the other day:

I have heard that Apple is working on a 16″ Macbook PRO and they are also switching to a new keyboard. If they also remove “touch pad” it may be a good laptop.
I think you wrote touch pad instead of touch bar.
Also I found your website from your “kargo takip” app. Thank you for your work.
